Already Near

Enjoying The Union We Didn't Create

Already Near

Enjoying The Union We Didn't Create

“On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.” John 14:20

Trying To Get Closer

Have you ever felt as though you needed to do something more to get closer to God?

Maybe pray more faithfully, worship more deeply, obey more completely, or somehow believe with greater faith. I understand that desire because we want to know Him, experience His presence, and live close to His heart.

But Jesus gives us a very different starting place. He doesn't ask us to work our way into Him or become spiritual enough for Him to make His home in us.

He simply says, “You are in Me, and I am in you.”

Union Before Communion

There is a beautiful difference between union and communion.

Union is what God has accomplished in Christ; communion is our participation in the relationship we've already been given.

Prayer doesn't bring Abba closer; it becomes the ongoing conversation of a child with the Father who is already present.

Worship isn't trying to enter His presence; it's our loving response to the One who has already made His home within us.

Even obedience isn't something we do to gain intimacy, but the life of Jesus finding expression through those who are already loved.

Awakening To What Is True

I love that Jesus said there would come a day when His disciples would realize this: “You are in Me, and I am in you.”

He wasn't asking them to create union.

He was inviting them to awaken to what He had already made true.

We can stop measuring our closeness to Abba by how well we prayed today, how deeply we worshiped, or how faithfully we performed.

None of those things bring us into union; they become beautiful ways of enjoying and participating in the union that is already ours in Christ.

Already Near

You don't have to find your way into the Father's presence today because you are already there.

You are in Christ, Christ is in you, and together we are held within the shared life and love of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Prayer, worship, trust, and obedience are no longer attempts to get closer; they are the joy of living with the One who has already made Himself our home.

We don't practice His presence hoping He will come near. We practice becoming aware of the Presence that has never left.

Reflection

Where have I been trying to get closer to a Father who is already near?

Have I been praying, worshiping, or obeying to gain intimacy—or enjoying the intimacy already given to me in Christ?

What would change today if I lived fully aware that I am already in Him and He is already in me?

Prayer

Abba Father, awaken me to the life and love we already share. Let me live today knowing I am already at home in You. Amen.
