DEFEATING COMPLACENCY

Complacency is a poison taken one drop at a time.

So that you may not grow disinterested [complacent] and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by the practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. Hebrews 6:12

DEFEATING COMPLACENCY

Complacency is a poison taken one drop at a time. It fools our minds into thinking everything is fine. Bruce Carroll

I enjoy the above description of faith:

Leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness.

Complacency in the believer's life looks different than in the world.

As a follower, it is when "I" takes over.

It happens gradually.

It doesn't even look like one decision.

And the warning is that it usually starts when things are smooth.

That is when we start going with the stream of circumstances instead of growing in them.

It isn't noticeable at the moment, but it can be noticed only by examining where you are now by the light of the Holy Spirit.

Look at the fruit of your life and what it looks like:

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

Or

Chaotic, frantic, aimless, strife, hopeless, or purposeless?

Paul tells the Galatian church, "Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives."

The good news is that we have a choice, and in a moment, we can throw off complacency and live!

A life lived by the Spirit will not only not be dull, but it will be full of adventure and fruitfulness.

Describe how complacency is revealed in your life.

What if anything needs to change?

Lord, You are life. You are our life. May we never become complacent and exist but live to the fullness of your glory shining through us! Amen
