He’s Already There
If God tells you to go, He’s already gone ahead of you.
“If I (God) tell you to go, I have gone. All I need is an obedient heart.” Phillip Olubakin
The Call and the Excuses
When God calls, we often reach for excuses. Sometimes they sound practical: “I don’t have the resources,” or “What if I fail?”
But more often they sound “spiritual”:
“I haven’t prayed enough.”
“I don’t fast like others do.”
“I just failed Jesus yesterday—how could He use me today?”
“I don’t know enough Scripture.”
Moses said, “I don’t speak well.” (Exodus 4:10). Jeremiah said, “I am too young.” (Jeremiah 1:6). Isaiah cried, “Woe is me, I am unclean.” (Isaiah 6:5). Peter denied Jesus three times.
Yet in every case, God’s response wasn’t, “Fix yourself first.” It was, “I will be with you.”
God Is Already Ahead
We think in time—yesterday, today, tomorrow.
God already stands in all of them.
He doesn’t send us forward into His unknown, only our unknown; He calls us into a place where He already is.
“The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
“Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
When God says, “Go,” He’s not giving you a map—He’s inviting you into His presence.
Co-Laboring With Him
Here’s the mystery: God doesn’t need us, yet He chooses to work through us. He delights to co-labor with His children, letting us taste the joy of being part of His miracles and enjoying His presence. When the Red Sea parts, when the walls fall, when bread multiplies—we don’t just witness His power, we experience it firsthand.
Where Impossible Meets Him
Following Jesus often looks impossible—and that’s exactly the point. If we could do it ourselves, we wouldn’t need Him. Impossible is where His sufficiency shows up.
He doesn’t weigh our qualifications; He invites our obedience. And when we step into what looks too big for us, He shows that it was never too big for Him. Our role is to trust. His role is everything else.
Reflection
What excuses have I been making instead of stepping into obedience?
Where has God already gone ahead of me, but I’m still standing at the starting line?
How would my trust grow if I believed He is already there waiting for me?
