Hope While It Still Hurts

When The Story Is Still Unfinished

Hope While It Still Hurts

Hope is so much more than wishing for a better tomorrow. In this series, we'll explore what it means to know Abba as the God of Hope and discover how His goodness and Love allow us to live fully today and look toward tomorrow with hope.

When The Story Is Still Unfinished

“But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.” Romans 8:25

Some Things Still Hurt

There are things in my life I would change if I could.

People I would bring back. Pain I would erase. Relationships I would heal. Questions I would love to have answered.

Following Jesus hasn't made me immune to any of that.

And hope doesn't require me to pretend otherwise.

Romans 8 gives us an incredibly honest picture. Creation is groaning. We are groaning. Even the Holy Spirit joins us in our weakness with groanings too deep for words.

Groaning and hoping can live in the same heart.

Hope Doesn't Hurry Grief

I've learned that some pain shouldn't be rushed.

Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is sit beside someone without trying to explain their suffering, fix their sadness, or hand them a Bible verse to make the hurt disappear.

Jesus wept and hoped.

There are tears that belong in a life of hope.

Hope doesn't tell us, “You shouldn't feel this way.”

Hope quietly reminds us, “This isn't the end.”

An Anchor Doesn't Stop The Storm

Hebrews describes hope as “an anchor for the soul.”

We don't need anchors on calm days.

An anchor doesn't stop the wind, flatten the waves, or make the storm disappear. It holds us while everything around us is moving.

There have been seasons when that is about all I could do—stay anchored and let Abba love me while the storm passed over.

That is still hope.

The Story Isn't Finished

Paul says we hope for what we cannot yet see.

We still have healing we haven't witnessed, restoration we haven't experienced, and a creation still longing for freedom.

We don't have to deny today's pain to believe in tomorrow's restoration.

Hope lets me tell the truth about what hurts while trusting that Love is still writing a story I cannot yet see.

So I can grieve what has been lost.

I can ache over what remains broken.

And right there, in the middle of it all, I will still hope.

Reflection

Where have I felt pressure to hide my pain in order to appear hopeful?

What unfinished place in my life needs patience rather than an explanation?

What would it mean to let Abba love me there today?

Prayer

Abba Father, meet me in the places that still hurt. Give me freedom to grieve honestly and grace to remain anchored in Your Love while the story is still unfolding. Amen.
