More Fruit

When Love Makes Room For More Fruit

More Fruit

When Love Makes Room For More Fruit

“Every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” John 15:2

A branch does not grow only by what appears on it.

Some growth comes through addition: green leaves returning, blossoms opening, fruit slowly forming from life the branch did not create. The branch receives from the vine, from the sun, from the rain, and from the hidden care of the gardener.

But some growth comes through removal.

The gardener trims what is dead or draining, not because the branch is unwanted, but because there is more life waiting to be received.

What Love Gives

Peter says God has already given us everything we need for life and godliness. Then he speaks of adding to faith: goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, affection, and love.

This is not a branch trying to decorate itself with fruit.

It is the life of Christ within us beginning to show.

His love adds patience where hurry once ruled. His kindness grows where fear once shaped our words. His peace appears in places anxiety had claimed as its own.

What Love Removes

There are also things Abba lovingly removes.

Hebrews speaks of laying aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles. Some things we carry once felt like protection. Some patterns helped us survive a painful season, but they were never meant to become our home.

The Father’s pruning is not rejection. It is care.

He is not cutting us away from Himself.

He is cutting away what keeps us from fully receiving the life already flowing from the Vine.

The Fruit Of Being Held

Sometimes growth looks like more fruit appearing.

Other times it feels like freedom returning.

A fear that once wrapped around your heart begins to loosen. A false name you carried for years no longer sounds true. An old way of surviving slowly gives way to the life of Christ within you.

The branch is not becoming loved.

It is growing because it is already held by the Vine, already tended by the Father, and already alive with the fruit of His love.

Reflection

What is Abba adding in me through His love?

What weight may Love be inviting me to lay aside?

Where might pruning actually be care?

Prayer

Abba Father, help me receive what Your love is growing in me and release what no longer belongs to life in Christ. Amen.
