"I have revealed to them who you are, and I will continue to make you even more real to them so that they may experience the same endless love that you have for me, for your love will now live in them, even as I live in them!" John 17:26
The most significant stumbling block in the way of victory over prayerlessness is the secret feeling that we shall never obtain the blessing of being delivered from it. Andrew Murray
Overcoming Prayerlessness
One of my spiritual mentors once told me, "Your prayer life is the first to go,"
When you see your attitude, relationships, and worldview starting to fester and smelleth, you can usually trace it back to the slow leak in your prayer life.
Of course, this is not to promote rote and meaningless prayers, but prayer time spent with Abba in the secret place.
Write Your Prayers
The mentor pointed me to writing my heart on paper during one dry period.
This "method" breaks the log jam of a lack of intimacy.
It works every time!
I don't understand it, but it is more than journaling; collecting prayers encourages me to return and read them.
Read Your Prayers
Scripture can be prayer, and I have found that praying a Psalm and other scripture can become a delight when I find myself avoiding or not making time to be with Abba Father.
"Praying the Scriptures for Intimate Worship" by Larry Boa is an excellent collection of scripture arranged in the order of the Lord's Prayer.
Set Aside Daily Time
Believe me, Jesus is always ready to help us to pray!
How do you break your spells of prayerlessness?
What are some methods or habits that help you to encounter the Father in prayer?
What will you do differently to overcome prayerlessness?
Lord, we trust that You desire to spend time with us. May we become so enamored with spending with You that our lives awaken to Your love, too. Amen
