The Transforming Power Of A Renewed Mind

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

More Than Better Thinking

I think many of us have been taught that renewing our minds means replacing bad thoughts with good ones, memorizing more Scripture, or simply learning to think more biblically. There is certainly value in knowing Scripture, but Paul is describing something deeper than gathering better information.

The word translated transformed is metamorphoō, the same word used when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John. Jesus didn't become someone different on that mountain. For a moment, the disciples were allowed to see differently. The glory that was already His became visible before their eyes.

What if a renewed mind is learning to see what has been there all along?

Knowing The One Scripture Reveals

The Pharisees knew Scripture remarkably well, yet Jesus told them, “You study the Scriptures diligently...yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.” (John 5:39–40)

Scripture was never meant to become a substitute for relationship.

Through the Spirit, the words continually lead us to Jesus, and Jesus continually reveals His Father.

As we know His heart, the way we see ourselves, other people, and even our circumstances begins to look different.

Seeing From Heaven's View

Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Paul says the renewed mind recognizes and approves that good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Fear may call something impossible. Shame may call someone unworthy. Circumstances may tell us there is no hope.

We don't deny what is in front of us; we simply refuse to let it become a greater revelation of the Father than Jesus.

Jesus lived this way. He saw what His Father was doing and joined Him there.

Love Becomes Visible

Paul later tells us, “We have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)

We aren't trying to earn a renewed mind; we're learning to live from the mind of Christ already given to us.

And as our eyes awaken to the Father's heart, we begin seeing what Jesus sees: people to love, lives of immeasurable value, and places where His goodness longs to become visible.

The renewed mind ultimately leads us here;

To Love.

Because when we begin seeing through the Father's eyes, His love finds another place to become visible on earth as it is in heaven.

Where have I allowed circumstances to speak louder than Jesus?

Who might look different today if I saw them through the Father's eyes?

Abba Father, awaken my eyes to see what You see, and let Your love become visible through my life today. Amen.
