She's Still Cinderella To Me

And the two will become one.

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mark 10:7-9

Cinderella Till Death Do Us Part

She doesn't know me anymore,

But I know her because,

She's still Cinderella to me.

There have been several people in my life who have made a significant impact on me.

One was a couple I worked with for about 25 years that taught me some great lessons about marriage and true love.

We would sit around their kitchen table and talk a little about business and mostly about life.

At first, I thought it was a first marriage for each of them, but I came to learn that her first husband was killed in an automobile accident.

One morning they were talking about marriage and love when he took her hand and told me this; "I told Sula' (her nickname for Ursala) when we were expecting the first of our three sons to arrive, that honey, before this child it was you and me and after he's gone, it will be just you and me, so let's remember that while we have him....it will always be just you and me."

As the years went by, she began to slip mentally.

Slowly at first, then a gradual "goodbye" from her own memories.

I remember meeting them for lunch one day and saw him help her out of the car and guide her by her hand into the restaurant since she didn't know what was going on and had lost most of her eyesight.

This alone took nearly ten minutes.

During our meal, he cut up her food and fed her, yet he didn't even feed himself because he was helping and doting on her.

Later, she came to the point where she didn't know him.

I asked him how he was holding up during this time; he told me the following:

You know she doesn't know me anymore.

But that doesn't matter because she is still Sula' to me.

So, from the first time they met until they parted ways....she was always Cinderella to him.

How are you loving others in your life?

What needs to change in your life to love without condition?

Lord, thank you for the people you have shared with us. Especially those who display Your love to others in word and deed. May each of us love as You have loved us. Amen
