The Door We Didn’t See

When Abba Opens Our Eyes

The Door We Didn’t See

When Abba Opens Our Eyes

“Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” — Genesis 28:16

It is possible to stand in the middle of God’s kindness and still keep looking down the road for something else.

We ask for doors to open.

But there are moments when the deeper prayer is, “Abba, open my eyes to the door You have already opened.”

Looking Too Far Away

We can become strangely farsighted in the life of faith.

We look for God in the next season, the next answer, the next assignment. Meanwhile, His love is moving quietly in the conversation before us, the small prompting we keep dismissing, the step already beneath our feet.

Jacob woke from a dream in the wilderness and realized the Lord was in that place, and he had not known it.

The ground had not changed.

His eyes had.

The Help Already There

When Elisha’s servant was surrounded by danger, Elisha did not pray for God to arrive. He prayed, “Lord, open his eyes so that he may see.” The mountain was already filled with help. The servant needed sight.

We are not always waiting for Abba to move.

Often, His Spirit within us is teaching us to recognize where His life is already moving.

The Light For This Step

God may still open doors ahead.

But today, He may be inviting us to notice the one already warm with His light.

The miracle is not always a doorway appearing in the distance. Sometimes it is beloved eyes opening to see that Abba has been leading us here all along.

The way is being lit, step by step.

Reflection

Where might I be asking for a new door while missing the one already open?

What ordinary place may be holy ground?

What step is Abba lighting today?

Prayer

Abba Father, open my eyes to see Your love already at work around me. Help me notice the doors You have opened and trust the step You are lighting today. Amen.
