The Key Was Never Theirs
Freedom From What Someone Else Left Behind
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Waiting For The Key
Someone may have hurt us deeply, betrayed our trust, disappointed us, or simply failed to be there when we needed them most. What happened may have been completely wrong, and the wound may still be very real.
We may find ourselves waiting for something from them before we feel free to move forward.
An apology.
An acknowledgment of what happened. A change in their behavior. Some attempt to make right what they made wrong.
Without realizing it, we have placed the key to our freedom in the hands of the very person who hurt us, and we may wait a very long time for them to unlock the door.
Love Meets Us There
Jesus never asks us to pretend the wound isn't real or hurry through the pain.
His invitation is tender: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened...”
He meets us right where it still hurts and reminds us that our freedom was never someone else's to give back.
We don't have to wait for another person to change before healing can begin.
Walking Through The Door
Some wounds need grieving, forgiveness, healthy boundaries, and time to heal.
We can walk through an open door with scars. We can forgive and still need boundaries, and we can grieve what was lost without allowing the loss to determine where our story goes from here.
Jesus is already with us, loving us within the pain and leading us into the freedom that has always been ours in Him.
The Key Was Never Theirs
Maybe the person who hurt you will apologize someday. I hope they do.
But your freedom doesn't have to wait for their apology, understanding, or change.
The key was never theirs.
Jesus is already with you in what still hurts, and His Love has opened a way forward.
What happened will always be part of your story, but it doesn't get to determine the rest of it.
Love gets the final word.
Reflection
Whose change have I been waiting on before allowing myself to move forward?
Where have I unknowingly placed the key to my freedom in someone else's hands?
Where is Jesus inviting me to walk with Him today?
Prayer
Abba Father, meet me tenderly in what still hurts and help me walk in the freedom Your Love has already given me. Amen.
