The Renovation Stage

Trusting God in the Middle of Restoration

The Renovation Stage

Trusting God in the Middle of Restoration

The Pictures We Notice

You see them everywhere now—home renovation shows, blogs, and online articles that display dramatic before-and-after transformations.

A worn-out house becomes stunning.
A forgotten space becomes beautiful again.

The before picture shows where it started.
The after picture shows what it became.

But the most revealing photos are the ones in the middle.

The during pictures!

Walls open. Floors torn up. Dust everywhere.

Nothing looks finished yet—but that’s where the real work happens.

Living in the Middle

Right now I’m restoring a 120-year-old home.

The before and after will eventually tell a satisfying story. But the middle stage—the renovation—is something else entirely.

Every day brings decisions.

What stays?
What needs repair?
What must be removed?

And sometimes what looked fine on the surface reveals deeper problems underneath.

Restoration has a way of exposing things. So does grace.

The Renovation of the Soul

Most of us love the idea of redemption.

We celebrate the “after” stories.

But the life of Christ in us often looks more like renovation than celebration.

Scripture says Jesus is “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).

That means the story isn’t held together by our perfection.

Our story is held together by His faithfulness.

And the middle—the renovation stage—is where that faithfulness quietly does its work.

Sometimes God removes what we thought we needed.
Sometimes He rearranges rooms we thought were permanent.

Not to discourage us. But to restore us.

Trusting the Builder

Renovation is messy. Slow. Sometimes confusing.

But every decision made by the craftsman moves the house toward something more beautiful than before.

The same is true of our lives.

We may not see the finished picture yet.

But the Builder does. And He wastes nothing.

Reflection

What part of my life currently feels like the renovation stage?
Where might God be restoring something deeper than I can see right now?
How might trusting the Master Builder change the way I view this season?

Prayer

Abba Father, thank You that You are restoring what I cannot yet see. Give me patience in the renovation stage and trust in Your craftsmanship. Finish the beautiful work You have begun in me. Amen.
