When Shame Makes You Hide

Stepping Out of the Shadows and Back Into Love

When Shame Makes You Hide

Stepping Out of the Shadows and Back Into Love

Shame Always Sends Us Into the Trees

“So I hid.” (Genesis 3:10)

Three of the saddest words in Scripture.

Not because God was angry—
But because Adam thought He was.

Shame pushes us behind emotional trees:
overwork, silence, withdrawal, religion,
busy schedules, hard shells,
fig leaves of all shapes and sizes.

We hide not because God changed,
but because we changed how we saw Him.

Love Calls Us Out of Hiding

The first words God speaks to fallen humanity
aren’t harsh or demanding.

He doesn’t say, “What have you done?”
He says, “Where are you?”

Not a question of location—a question of relationship.

The Father walks into our hiding places
and calls our name,
not to expose us,
but to free us.

You Can Come Out Now

You no longer need the leaves.
You no longer need to hide behind the version of yourself
you think God prefers.

He wants you.
Right here.
Right now.

Love steps into the shade and says,
“Let's go for a walk. I’ve got you.”

Reflection

Where am I still hiding—from God, myself, or others?

What fig leaves am I using to cover the fear beneath?

What does Love’s voice sound like as He calls me out of hiding?

Prayer

Abba Father, pull me out of hiding with Your kindness. Let Your love be the place where shame loses its grip. I want to walk with You in the cool of the day again. Amen.
