Where Your Eyes Go
Love isn’t the detour from difficulty. It’s the highway where His glory is displayed.
"Don’t look at the wall. Your car goes where your eyes go." — Mario Andretti
When racing legend Mario Andretti was asked if he feared hitting the wall at high speeds, his answer wasn’t about ignoring danger. It was about focusing on the right thing.
In other words, if you stare at the wall, you’ll end up decorating it with your car.
It’s Deeper Than Just Direction
Life’s not just about avoiding the crash. In Christ, it’s about being led into His purposes, which often means driving straight into situations we’d rather avoid.
But here’s the difference: We don’t drive alone.
The Holy Spirit—the very life of Jesus within us—is not just giving us directions from the passenger seat. He is living through us, guiding the wheel, setting the pace, and making sure that even the sharp turns and pit stops are part of something beautiful.
His Love Is the Road Itself
Jesus is not simply our GPS; He is Love Himself (1 John 4:8).
And His love is not revealed in us despite the road—it’s revealed because of the road.
When Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, the storm didn’t vanish—but love carried him across it.
When the disciples faced a boy tormented by a demon, love didn’t avoid the mess—it entered it, set him free, and restored him to his father.
His love is not a detour from difficulty. It’s what transforms difficulty into a stage where He is revealed.
The Wall Isn’t Always the Enemy
Sometimes what looks like a wall is actually a mirror, showing us whether we’ve been looking at Him or everything else. And while we’re quick to pray, “Lord, get me out of this situation,” His Spirit is often whispering, “I’m here to show Myself through this situation.”
"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." — 2 Corinthians 4:8–9
That’s not the voice of someone avoiding walls. That’s someone learning that Christ in us is bigger than anything in front of us.
Keep Your Eyes on Love
So, yes, Mario was right: we go where we look. But in the Kingdom, what we look for is not just about steering clear of trouble. It’s about fixing our gaze on Love Himself—trusting that He’s not just getting us through the course, but revealing Himself along the course.
And when you finish the race and cross the line, you’ll find that His glory wasn’t just waiting for you at the end—it was with you at every turn.
