Who's Your Point Of Reference?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).

Who's Your Point Of Reference?

When a man in a boat throws his anchor toward shore and pulls on the rope, he often feels he’s pulling the land toward himself.

It’s “natural” to think we’re the center of everything, even when all nature shows us otherwise.

We can feel alone in our thoughts even when surrounded by thousands of people.

It’s easy to think we’re the only ones in certain challenging moments—unaware that this thought sometimes occurs to everyone!

You think you’re different and unique; you are—and yet, you’re not.

You share the same common humanity and the exact nature as everyone ever born.

Yet there’s no one exactly like you.

You’re unique, for example, in that your dreams are your own.

What do you dream about?

Fortune or fame?

Is it enhancing the lives of those around you?

Reflecting on my life, I can see my progression from me to Thee.

Only in the last several years have I surrendered my dreams to God.

God has continued to place people who’ve helped me in this, allowing me to evaluate my dreams and see that this life isn’t about me getting all I want.

It’s about Christ living His life through me, letting me live out my dream (and His purpose) of making a difference here and now for all eternity.

It’s a life I can pursue in peace, free from anxiety.

In what ways have you become your point of reference for this life?

Lord, reveal Your dreams for our lives. May we see Your greatness and Your hope in our future for others. Amen
