A Few Good Words
With Bouts Of Silence
“…only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29
A Prayer For Today
Lord, may I speak words of hope, words that build up, and words of comfort today—all interspersed with bouts of silence!
I can be so busy deciding what to say that I miss what someone is trying to tell me.
I’m still learning that a loving conversation needs room for more than my contribution!
According To Their Needs
Paul’s words, “according to their needs,” bring me back to the person in front of me.
One friend may need to hear how their kindness has encouraged me; another may need reassurance that they don’t have to face a hard season alone.
Room To Be Heard
We know how comforting it is when someone lets us finish without rushing to explain or fix anything. I want to offer that same kindness, especially when a friend has struggled to find the words.
Those bouts of silence give someone room to be heard without competing with my advice.
His Heart Through Our Voices
Jesus is already loving the person beside us.
As we share His Life, His encouragement can find words through us, and His tenderness can become our willingness to listen.
I want people to receive more than my opinion when we talk. I want them to experience the Father’s love.
Reflection
Who needs to hear what I appreciate about them?
Where have I been preparing an answer instead of listening?
What would make room for Love in my next conversation?
Prayer
Abba Father, let my words offer hope, encouragement, and comfort. Give me the tenderness to listen and the wisdom to welcome silence. Amen.
