Any Ol’ Bush Will Do

Humility is the chief virture.

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but did not burn up. Exodus 3:1-2

Any Ol’ Bush Will Do

(Quote by Major Ian Thomas)

The bush only needs to be willing and available.

Humility is not so much a grace or virtue along with the others; it is the root of all because it alone assumes the right attitude before God and allows Him as God to do all. Andrew Murray

Here, we find Egypt's top draft pick fallen to the lowly position of working his father-in-law's sheep.

All the preparation Moses thought would be needed to lead God's people was actually found in humility.

We can spend so much time preparing ourselves.

I think of all the books I have read and studied and the resulting knowledge I have applied in my life.

Yet, it is always the overwhelming presence of God that is doing the work.

My strengths, talents, experience, enneagram number, or personality don't draw others to God.

It is always Him.

There is no description of what type of bush is on fire.

Tall or short.

Thorny or blooming.

Evergreen or deciduous.

It does not matter.

When the bush is on fire and isn't consumed...any ol' bush will do!

In what ways may you be replacing His presence with your competence?

How does humility set the table for God to work in your life?

Lord, set me on fire. May I not be consumed by Your presence, only by Your love. Amen
