Being Or Doing

Our doing flows from our being.

Mary has discovered the most important thing by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won't take this privilege from her." Luke 10:42

"I would study more. I would pray more, travel less, and take fewer speaking engagements...I took too many of them to too many places around the world. If I had to do it over again, I'd spend more time meditating, praying, and telling the Lord how much I love Him." Billy Graham 2011 Interview

Being Or Doing?

So, if we follow Jesus, do we have to choose time with Him over serving Him?

Is there a conflict?

Our doing flows from our being.

All we do arises out of our relationship.

Jesus didn’t say, "Mary, don't work or serve; only spend your time at my feet."

He was speaking to show that what we do flows from our relationship with Him.

If Jesus said that He could do nothing apart from God the Father, it probably applies to us, too!

Brother Lawrence, a Carmelite friar, wrote a series of letters to friends about practicing God's presence in his everyday life.

He spent time in a secret place, which was the same as sitting at His feet.

Yet, when he arose to go about His day, He invited Jesus.

As followers of Jesus, He resides within us, so know that wherever we go, so does He.

Yet, we must continue to spend time in secret to increase our ability to hear and see how He is directing us.

In what ways have you compartmentalized your spirituality?

How have you seen it as sometimes secular and other times sacred

Thank You, Lord, for giving Your life for us to give Your life to us. Amen
