Therefore, if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah), he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! II Corinthians 5:17 AMP
Compare Ye Not!
“Judgment…is one of the ego’s tools to foster separation through comparison.” Peter Santos
For years, I would use comparison as a seemingly benign coping tool.
If I were having a bad day, I would say, "Well, at least I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and a job because many people don't."
Much like the old saying, "I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes until I met the man who had no feet."
The above was true, but it wasn't living from the truth.
I was coping through comparing. We are called to move from coping to thriving in the Kingdom of God!
Comparison will always leave one having more and the other having less.
The world teaches this way of thinking.
It leaves us in a place of never being satisfied when compared to others.
Or just as destructive, taking pride because we think we are superior somehow.
We are new creations.
The primary Greek word for new creation comes from the word we know as a prototype, which means one of a kind never before known.
Uniquely unique.
That is how God has made us.
It is beautiful and freeing when we stop comparing ourselves to anyone for any reason and start realizing how important it is that God has created us for a destiny of displaying His love to the world as no one else can.
Think about that. No reason to compare because no one is comparable!
When we realize His perfect design and desire, displayed by His perfect love for us, we start living in the freedom Christ has paid for.
Freedom is the ability to do what we are designed to do.
In what ways is your default mindset comparison of yourself to others?
Spend time with Abba, hearing and reading what He says about you and His love for you.
Love is the only antidote for comparison.
Lord, You have said that we are wonderfully made! Unique yet made in Your image. May we come alive in Your love as we lay down our worldly ways of thinking and become transformed by renewing our minds. Amen
