From Puppet To Person

When the Strings You Felt Were Never Yours

From Puppet To Person

When the Strings You Felt Were Never Yours

The Cross did not turn puppets into people.
It revealed that the strings were never meant to define us.

The Strings We Feel

Sometimes life feels as though invisible strings are pulling us.

Fear pulls one direction.
Shame pulls another.
The need to prove ourselves tightens everything.

We react before we think.
We strive to become someone better.
We work harder, hoping that eventually we will feel real.

In quieter moments, many of us recognize this tension.

Something in us longs to be free.

The Story That Helps Us See

Years ago I watched the story of Pinocchio again and suddenly saw it differently.

The puppet isn’t bad. He just isn’t free.

And the harder he tries to prove he is real, the more tangled he becomes.

That struggle feels familiar.

Not because we are puppets—but because life can sometimes feel like we are being pulled by forces we don’t fully understand.

Old wounds.
Expectations.
The need to earn love.

Why Striving Doesn’t Untangle the Strings

The problem with strings is that the puppet cannot cut them.

Trying harder only tightens the tension.

And in much the same way, the deepest struggles of the human heart cannot be solved by effort alone.

At some point we begin to realize that striving cannot give us the life we are searching for.

What we need is not stronger effort. We need a different kind of life.

What the Cross Reveals

At the center of the Christian story is a surprising truth.

God did not come to shame us for the strings. He came to cut them.

Scripture says our old self was crucified with Christ (Romans 6:6).

Not to erase us,

but to free us from what was never truly us.

Freedom is not independence from God.

It is participation in His life.

Learning to Live Free

The Father does not merely release us.

He shares His life with us.

“Christ… is your life” (Colossians 3:4).

So the story changes.

We are not puppets trying to become real.

We are people learning to live from a life already given.

And slowly, gently, we discover something beautiful:

The strings lose their pull.

Not because we fought them harder—

but because we are finally learning to live free.

Reflection

Where do you feel the tension of invisible strings in your life?
What might it look like to stop striving and begin receiving life instead?
Where do you sense freedom quietly beginning?

Prayer

Abba Father, awaken me to the life You have already placed within me. Help me live as Your child—free, loved, and fully alive in Your presence. Amen.
