Not More Willpower
Self-control can sound like another instruction to pull ourselves together.
But Paul calls it the fruit of the Spirit—the result of His presence within us, not the reward for having enough willpower.
We bear His fruit by yielding and abiding, not by trying to become strong enough to manage life without Him.
How We Wait
Patience isn’t waiting; it is how we wait.
We’ve waited for a driver’s license or a wedding day, and endured traffic jams and those sloth-led DMV visits!
Waiting for medical results or news that someone we love has arrived safely asks much more of our hearts. We care deeply, and we want things to turn out well.
Underneath my impatience, I can find myself thinking, “God, You’re not going to get this one right!”
I’ve moved from trusting His goodness to insisting that I must control the outcome somehow.
His Strength Through Us
Abba invites me to bring that whole struggle into our fellowship.
I can tell Him what I want, listen for His wisdom, and yield to the Holy Spirit instead of demanding more determination from myself.
We still choose our words and actions, but we aren’t left to supply the Life behind them.
As we abide in Jesus, His patience and gentleness become kindness the people waiting beside us can experience.
Self-control is not me mastering life without Him; it is His Life finding expression through me.

Where am I confusing self-control with more willpower?
What am I trying to control instead of entrusting to Abba?
How might His Life shape my response today?
Prayer
Abba Father, teach me to yield to Your Spirit and trust Your goodness. Let Your strength become Love others experience through me. Amen.
