Living Temples in Ordinary Places

We are jars of clay, carrying treasure beyond measure..

“The world may never step into a church, but they can step into your presence—and meet Him there
.”

We are not God. But by His grace, we carry His presence. Paul reminds us: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

The temple was never worshiped—it was the dwelling place of the One who is worthy of worship. In the same way, we are vessels—jars of clay—graced to hold the treasure of His presence (2 Corinthians 4:7).

Vessels, Not the Source

It’s freeing to remember: we are not Him. But He has chosen to live in us. That means our “ordinary” days—walking into an office, cooking a meal, chatting with a neighbor—can become sacred because His Spirit works through us.

Sometimes His presence breaks in with power; other times it’s as simple as a gentle reminder of His goodness that sparks gratitude in our hearts or someone else’s.

Christ in Us, For the World

Paul calls this mystery “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Notice: it’s not “Christ is you.” It’s Christ in you.

We are not divine—we are dependent. And that dependence is what makes us carriers of divine love into a broken world.

His glory is revealed, not through our perfection, but through our surrender.

Ordinary Made Sacred

The Spirit delights to use what looks ordinary to reveal the extraordinary.

A hospital room can become a sanctuary of hope.

A text message can become a lifeline of grace.

A grocery line can become a place of divine appointment.

A walk with a friend can become holy ground.

Not because we make it sacred, but because He is present in us. We are His vessels—His chosen instruments—to bring His presence into the places He loves most: the everyday lives of people He longs to reach.

Reflectionn

Do I see myself as the source—or as a vessel graced to carry His presence?
Where might God want to transform an ordinary moment in my week into something sacred?
How can I practice gratefulness as a way of awakening to His goodness in the everyday?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of being Your temple—not because I am divine, but because You graciously dwell in me. Keep me humble, remembering I am a vessel, not the source. Yet keep me hopeful, knowing that You love to transform ordinary spaces into places of glory. Use my life to carry Your love, whether in power or in simple gratitude, so that others may encounter You through me. Amen.
