Love Honors Others

Gossip needn't be false to be evil.

Love Honors Others

What Our Words Are Really Doing

More Than What We Say

There’s an old saying that makes me pause:

“Christians don’t gossip… they share.”

Sometimes it’s wrapped in concern.
Sometimes it sounds like prayer.
Sometimes it even feels helpful.

But if we’re honest, not everything that is true needs to be spoken.

And not everything spoken is actually loving.

The Subtle Shift

We rarely set out to harm someone with our words.

But there is a quiet line we can cross without realizing it.

We talk about someone instead of to them.
We process something out loud that doesn’t belong to us.
We pass along something that may be true… but not helpful.

And slowly, something meant to be shared in trust becomes something exposed.

Not because we intended it, but because we didn’t pause long enough to consider what love would do.

What Love Looks Like In Words

Scripture gives us a clearer picture:

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up…” (Ephesians 4:29)

Corrupting doesn’t just mean harsh or inappropriate.

It means anything that tears down instead of builds up.

Love is not only expressed in what we do.

It is revealed in how we speak.

A Simple Way To See It

Before we speak about someone, it’s worth asking:

Would I say this if they were here?
Is this building them up or quietly pulling them down?
Am I part of the solution… or just the conversation?

Because love doesn’t look for ways to pass something along.

Love looks for ways to protect, to honor, and to give life.

What Begins To Change

When we begin to see our words this way, something shifts.

We slow down.
We become more aware.
We begin to value people more than the moment.

Not out of pressure,
but because love is beginning to shape how we see.

The Quiet Truth

If you are not part of the problem or the solution, you may not need to speak into it.

And sometimes, the most loving thing we can say…
is nothing at all.

Reflection

Where

have my words been more about sharing than honoring?

What would it look like to build others up with what I say?

Where might silence actually be love?

Prayer

Abba Father, thank You for the way You speak life over us. Help me reflect that same love in my words. Teach me to speak in ways that build up, protect, and give grace to others. Amen.
