Loved For Your Sake
Learning To Love With Jesus
“As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34
Erich Fromm names care, responsibility, respect, and knowledge as essential to love. We learn to share these as Jesus shares His Life with us.
Care That Takes Time
We can sincerely want the best for someone and still miss what they need.
Love makes room to listen, understand their hopes, and offer help that encourages their growth rather than assuming we already know what’s best.
Responsibility Without Taking Over
Love responds without taking ownership of another person’s life. We can help carry what hurts without insisting on deciding what happens next.
Holy Spirit guides our fellowship as we learn to walk beside one another.
Respect That Makes Room
We don’t love someone so they become a more convenient version of themselves for us.
Their gifts, hopes, and personality matter to Abba, and we get to celebrate their growth without needing it to follow the same path as ours.
Knowing Beyond The Surface
Knowing someone’s coffee order is a start, but knowing what keeps them awake takes time and trust.
Anger may be protecting fear, and silence may hold loneliness; we need to listen rather than decide we already understand.
Jesus knows us completely and loves us personally. As we receive His tenderness, we learn to offer someone else the relief of being understood without being managed.
You don’t have to become useful to me to be precious to me.
Reflection
Where could my care become more attentive?
Am I responding to someone’s needs or trying to manage their life?
What could I understand better if I listened longer?
Prayer
Abba Father, let the Love we share become care, tenderness, and understanding in our life together. Amen.
