Pursued By Goodness
Learning To Expect What Is True
The Story We Know Too Well
Think of the movies we’ve all seen.
The good guys are outnumbered. The bad ones are closing in. You can feel it building—the tension, the uncertainty, the sense that something is about to go wrong.
You don’t have to think about it. You feel it.
Because fear is the anticipation of evil.
And if we’re honest, that doesn’t stay on the screen. It can quietly shape how we move through our own lives.
The Way We Learn To See
We don’t start there on purpose.
But over time, disappointments, unknowns, and the weight of what didn’t turn out the way we hoped begin to train us. We learn to brace ourselves, just in case.
Without realizing it, we begin to live as though we are being pursued by something we need to outrun.
What Scripture Says Is True
But Scripture gives us a very different picture:
“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6)
Not occasionally. Not just when things are going well.
All the days.
And not from a distance.
Pursuing!
A Different Kind Of Pursuit
What if the truest thing about your life is not what might go wrong, but what is already moving toward you?
What if you are not being chased by loss or failure, but by goodness and love?
God’s Kingdom doesn’t operate from fear. It flows from who He is.
Turning The Script Around
Fear says something bad is coming.
Hope begins to say something good is on the way.
But Scripture goes further.
It tells us that goodness and love are not just coming—they are already in pursuit.
Living From What Is True
This doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes easy.
It means something deeper becomes clear.
You don’t have to move through your days bracing for what might fall apart. You can begin to expect what is true, even when life feels uncertain.
Because this is what Scripture is showing us:
You are not being chased by what could go wrong.
You are being pursued by what is already good.
And when that begins to settle in, it changes how you walk through the day. You become more aware of what is being given, more open to what is unfolding, and less controlled by what you fear might happen.
You don’t have to outrun anything.
Goodness is already moving toward you.
Love has already found you.
And it will continue to, all the days of your life.
Reflection
What have I been expecting without realizing it?
Where has fear shaped the way I see what’s ahead?
What would it look like to expect goodness instead?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You that Your goodness and love are not distant but actively pursuing me. Help me see what is true and live with a heart anchored in hope instead of fear. Amen.
