Rest is one of the Father's greatest gifts. In these two blogs, we'll discover the difference between the rest that renews our bodies and the rest that renews our souls.
The Gift We Resist
Why Rest Feels So Hard
"Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
There is something almost uncomfortable about sitting still sometimes.
Have you ever taken a day off, only to find yourself thinking about everything you should be doing?
The lawn still needs mowing. The emails are waiting. The laundry is piling up. Even while your body is resting, your mind quietly keeps working.
Sometimes it isn't because there is so much to do.
Sometimes it is because we have quietly learned to measure our value by our productivity.
The Burden We Carry
Most of us would never say, "If I'm not productive, I'm not valuable."
But we often live as though it were true.
We apologize for resting. We feel guilty for slowing down. We wear exhaustion almost like a badge of honor, believing that staying busy somehow makes us more faithful, more responsible, or more worthwhile.
Yet Jesus never hurried.
He stepped away from crowds. He withdrew to lonely places. He slept through a storm while others panicked.
Even the Creator rested, not because He was weary, but because delight paused to enjoy what love had accomplished.
Perhaps rest has always been one of the Father's gifts.
The Courage To Stop
Rest requires something many of us never think about.
Trust.
When we stop working for a while, we quietly confess that the world is not resting on our shoulders.
We acknowledge that the Father is still caring for His creation while we take a breath.
Maybe that is why rest feels difficult.
It asks us to let go of the illusion that everything depends on us.
The Father Who Gives Rest
Jesus never invited weary people to become stronger.
He invited them to come closer.
Rest is not something we earn after proving ourselves.
It is something we receive because we are beloved.
The Abba Father is not disappointed when His children stop long enough to breathe.
He smiles because the ones He loves are finally receiving one of the gifts He built into creation from the very beginning.
Reflection
What makes rest difficult for me?
Where have I quietly tied my value to my productivity?
How might receiving rest become an act of trusting Abba?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You for knowing how You created me. Teach me to receive rest as Your gift instead of resisting it through fear or striving. Let every quiet moment remind me that I am loved because I am Yours, not because of what I accomplish. Amen.
