The Weight We Never Meant To Carry

When Expectancy Becomes Peace

The Weight We Never Meant To Carry

When Expectancy Becomes Peace

"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." — 2 Corinthians 9:8

Some of the heaviest burdens we carry are not things in our hands.

They are the lives we imagined we would be living by now.

A relationship we thought would have healed. A dream that never unfolded. A prayer that seems to linger unanswered. Even the person we expected ourselves to become.

Without realizing it, hope can quietly become expectation.

Then, instead of receiving each day as a gift, we begin measuring it against a story we have already written in our hearts.

When life tells a different story, disappointment quietly finds a place to sit.

The Story We Wrote

There is nothing wrong with hope.

Hope is one of the Abba Father's beautiful gifts. It keeps our hearts open to His goodness and reminds us that love is always writing another chapter.

But expectations can slowly close the hand that hope once left open.

Instead of asking, "Abba, what are You doing?" we begin asking, "Why didn't You do what I expected?" (check out that line again)

That question can quietly steal the joy of the life unfolding before us.

The Grace Of Open Hands

Paul paints a different picture.

He describes a Father whose grace always abounds, whose sufficiency never runs dry, and whose provision meets us in every season.

Perhaps the opposite of expectation is not giving up hope.

Perhaps it is living with expectancy.

Expectancy opens its hands each morning and whispers, "Abba, I cannot wait to see what Your love reveals today."

The Gift Of Today

Abba rarely gives tomorrow's grace today.

He gives today's grace for today's journey, and somehow it is always enough.

The life before you may not look exactly as you once imagined.

But it has never unfolded outside your Father's love.

As our expectations loosen their grip, expectancy quietly takes their place.

And we begin discovering that His presence is more beautiful than the future we were trying so hard to arrange.

Reflection

Where have my expectations become heavier than hope?

What good gift might Abba be inviting me to notice today?

How would my heart change if I received today with open hands?

Prayer

Abba Father, loosen my grip on the life I expected and awaken my heart to the beauty of the life You are unfolding today. Teach me to live with joyful expectancy, trusting that Your grace will always be enough for the journey we share together. Amen.
