The Gospel Has A Face
Life Flows From Relationship
"Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be for all people. For there is born to you this day... a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." — Luke 2:10–11
When the angels announced the birth of Jesus, they did not announce a new way of living.
They announced a Person.
Over the years, I've watched many of us become very good at teaching the Christian life. We teach principles, habits, disciplines, and practical ways to live. Those things all have their place, but sometimes they quietly become the center of what we proclaim.
The good news was never primarily a better way to live.
The good news has always been Jesus.
The Life Jesus Lived
Jesus taught about forgiveness, humility, generosity, prayer, and love.
But none of those began as principles.
They were simply the fruit of the life He shared with His Father.
Every word He spoke, every person He embraced, every miracle He performed quietly revealed the same reality.
"My life comes from My Father."
Then He invited His disciples into that same life.
Not merely to follow His example.
To share His relationship.
This Is Eternal Life
Just before the cross, Jesus prayed,
"This is eternal life, that they may know You..."
The Greek word is ginōskō. It speaks of knowing through relationship, shared life, and experience.
Jesus was not inviting us to know more about His Father.
He was inviting us to know the Father the way He knew the Father.
That is the life He came to share.
The Joy Of The Gospel
This is the good news the angels proclaimed.
The Father has shared His life with us through His Son and by His Spirit.
Christ is our life.
As we learn to live from Him, forgiveness no longer begins with obligation. Generosity no longer begins with duty. Faith no longer begins with striving.
They become the natural expression of the life we have first received.
The gospel is not simply learning how to live.
It is learning to live from the One who is our life.
Reflection
What has been the source of the life I am living?
Am I becoming more familiar with the Father's heart?
How might His life become visible through mine today?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You for revealing Your heart through Jesus. Continue opening my eyes to the life we already share, and teach me to live from Your love today. Amen.
