Love Never Uses Shame
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1
The Same Failure
We say something hurtful, make a selfish choice, or find ourselves somewhere we know does not reflect who we are in Christ.
That moment can become the meeting place of two very different messages.
The accuser takes what happened and turns it against our identity. Shame begins whispering that we should pull away from God, cover ourselves, or wait until we are better before coming close again.
It is the old story from Eden. Adam and Eve sinned, became afraid, hid, and blamed.
The problem was no longer only what they had done...
They were now hiding from the One they most needed.
Love Moves Toward Relationship
The Holy Spirit never needs condemnation to bring transformation—and He never uses it.
He can lovingly put His finger on the very same behavior and tell us the truth without ever questioning whose we are. His conviction is not, “Look what kind of person you are.”
It is more like, “Beloved, this is not who you are. Come back into the freedom of living as who you already are.”
Conviction is a Love word.
It does not recreate our union with God. In Christ, that relationship is already ours. Conviction draws us back into enjoying it—back into communion, openness, and the freedom of being fully known.
Listen For The Direction
The prodigal son finally “came to himself.” He turned toward home carrying a speech about becoming a servant, but his father met him as a son.
That is the Father’s heart.
The deceiver uses sin to make sons and daughters think like orphans. The Spirit uses truth to awaken us again to our beloved identity.
Condemnation points at our failure and tells us to hide. Conviction touches the same place and leads us home.
Reflection
When I fail, whose voice have I been listening to?
Where has shame made me withdraw from the Father?
What truth is the Spirit lovingly restoring in me?
Prayer
Abba Father, help me recognize every voice that is not Yours. When I miss the mark, draw me quickly back into the joy of Your Love. Amen.
