True Discipleship

It isn’t helping others trust and follow you...

Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that day, his plans perish. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God. Psalm 146

True Discipleship

In its most elemental form, discipleship is helping others trust and follow Jesus.

It isn’t helping them trust and follow you.

We live in a culture of influencers and followers.

How easy it can be to forget Whom we are leading others to follow.

Our flesh will always tug us to be dependent upon others or delight in others being dependent on us.

As you disciple others, remember this: If you are trying to recreate someone in your image, then one of you will be redundant.

Who have you put more trust in than Jesus?

Who are you leading that needs to learn greater dependence on Jesus, not you?

Lord, You are God. You are our all in all. Awaken us to know the delight of total dependence upon You in our leading and following! Amen
