Two Hands, One Nail

When Love Carried Us Through Death Into Life

Two Hands, One Nail

When Love Carried Us Through Death Into Life

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20

I once heard of a theologian who was asked, “When were you born again?”

He answered, “Two thousand years ago.”

That answer may trouble the part of us that wants everything to begin with our decision, our prayer, or our moment of understanding.

Our yes is beautiful and real, but Paul points to something older than our yes.

“I have been crucified with Christ.”

The Hand Within His Hand

Jesus alone bore the cross.

He entered death and broke its power from the inside. But He did not go there detached from the ones He loved. He went there as the One who had taken our humanity into Himself.

The nail pierced His hand, and in Him the false self we had learned to carry was taken there too: the accused self, the shamed self, the self that felt orphaned, the self still trying to earn a love already given.

The Life That Rose

The gospel is not only that Jesus died for us.

It is that Jesus gathered us into Himself and carried us through death into life.

Paul says, “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Romans says we were buried with Him and raised to walk in newness of life. Ephesians says we were made alive, raised, and seated with Him in Christ.

This is not a distant benefit waiting for someday.

It is His life within us now.

The Yes That Awakens

Faith does not persuade Abba to include us.

Faith opens our eyes to the Love that already reached us in Jesus. Our yes matters because love is meant to be received, trusted, and lived from. But our yes is not the beginning of Abba’s heart toward us.

The cross is where accusation ran out of words.

In the pierced hand of Jesus, the false names we had learned to answer to were carried into death with Him.

And when He rose, Love did not come back empty-handed.

He brought us with Him into a life where shame no longer gets to name us, death no longer gets to define us, and Christ within us becomes the truth we live from now.

Two hands.

One nail.

His hand, carrying ours, all the way into Life.

Reflection

Where have I made my story begin with my response instead of Abba’s love?

What false name did Jesus carry through death with me?

How would today look if I trusted Christ is my life now?

Prayer

Abba Father, open my eyes to the love that included me in Christ. Help me live from His life within me and rest in what You have already done. Amen.
