Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1
We are victors, not victims.
Cockleburs, cobwebs, pine tar, and sticker bushes all share something in common.
They attach themselves to us as we journey through the woods.
In life's journey, we have a tendency to collect all types of things.
Some are benign because they cause no harm, but enough of them will impede our progress.
We have the choice to free ourselves from these things or to remove them from us.
The above verse says to strip off and throw aside every encumbrance and sin that clings and entangles us.
We know about these things and have the authority to address them.
In other words, we can take off or let go of things impeding our journey with God.
What unnecessary weight are you carrying that impedes your fruitfulness?
What is the sin that is entangling your walk with Him?
Choose to be rid of both by the power of Jesus' name.
Lord, we are not victims. You have given us all authority and faith to walk in the fulness of Your love and power to Your glory. Then may it be so! Amen
