When A Lie Finds A Home (Part Two)

The Stories That Quietly Shape Our Lives

This series explores how deception begins, how lies become strongholds, and how the love of God leads us into freedom. More than exposing darkness, my hope is to help us see more clearly the goodness of God revealed in Jesus, His light, and the life He invites us to live now with Him.

When A Lie Finds A Home (Part Two)

The Stories That Quietly Shape Our Lives

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God...” — 2 Corinthians 10:5

Not every lie arrives as a lie.

Some arrive as conclusions drawn from disappointment, pain, rejection, failure, or long seasons of unanswered questions.

Over time, those conclusions begin sounding less like opinions and more like facts.

God has forgotten me.

I'll never change.

Nothing is ever going to be different.

People always leave.

I have to take care of myself because nobody else will.

Most of us have heard thoughts like these.

Some of us have lived from them.

How A Lie Becomes A Lens

Paul speaks of strongholds as arguments and lofty opinions raised against the knowledge of God.

The image is not of a demon hiding behind a tree.

It is of a way of seeing.

A lens through which everything begins to be interpreted.

Once a lie finds a home, it starts coloring every relationship, every circumstance, and even the way we read Scripture.

The lie becomes familiar and familiarity often disguises captivity.

The Stories We Defend

One of the most surprising things about strongholds is that we often defend them.

Not because we enjoy them.

Because they have helped us make sense of our lives.

A person wounded by rejection may build a story around never being fully wanted.

A person carrying shame may become convinced they are fundamentally flawed.

The behavior is rarely the root.

There is usually a story beneath it, and it often protects a wound. (Read that again, please)

What Love Begins Revealing

Jesus never seemed intimidated by people's wounds.

He had a way of seeing beyond the behavior and speaking to the deeper story underneath it.

Not to expose people.

To free them.

Because freedom does not begin when we try harder.

It begins when we become willing to question whether the story we have believed is actually true.

The Invitation Beneath The Surface

Every stronghold started somewhere.

Every lie had a beginning.

And if a lie can be learned, it can also be unlearned.

The Father is not trying to expose your weakness.

He is inviting you into a truer story.

One where His love has the final word.

Reflection

What conclusions have I accepted about myself that may not be true?

What story beneath the surface has been shaping how I see God or others?

Where might the Father be inviting me into a better story?

Prayer

Abba Father, help me recognize the stories I have believed that do not agree with Your heart. Teach me to see myself, others, and You through the truth of Your love. Amen.
