(This series explores how deception begins, how lies become strongholds, and how the love of God leads us into freedom. More than exposing darkness, my hope is to help us see more clearly the goodness of God revealed in Jesus and the life He invites us to live.)
Freedom Begins With A Better Story (Part Three)
When Truth Becomes More Believable Than The Lie
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
Most people do not become free because someone points out their strongholds.
And they do not become free by trying harder.
Freedom happens when truth becomes more believable than the lie.
That is why Jesus did not merely come to forgive sins.
He came to reveal the Father.
Because every lie ultimately distorts how we see God, ourselves, or others.
And every truth restores sight.
The Story Love Keeps Telling
For many people, the strongest voice in their life has been shame, fear, rejection, or disappointment.
Those stories become familiar.
They explain the past.
They seem to make sense of life.
But familiarity does not make them true.
Jesus continually invited people into a different story.
Not a story built around failure, but belovedness.
Not a story built around fear, but trust.
Not a story built around what had happened to them, but about what God was saying about them.
What Metanoia Really Looks Like
The New Testament word often translated "repentance" is metanoia.
At its heart, it means a change of mind, a reorientation, a new way of seeing.
It is learning to agree with God.
At its heart, it means a change of mind, a reorientation, a new way of seeing.
It is learning to agree with God—not merely about behavior, but about reality itself: who He is, who you are, and what has always been true in Christ.
Coming Home To What Is True
The goal is not to spend your life hunting down every lie, but to become so aware of the Father's love that the lies no longer feel like home.
Over time, something beautiful begins happening.
You stop defining yourself by your failures and begin seeing yourself as a beloved son or daughter.
You become less conscious of what is wrong with you and more conscious of the One who has joined His life to yours.
The strongholds that once felt immovable begin losing their mortar in the presence of love.
Because love reveals what fear never could and accomplishes what striving never will.
This is the freedom Jesus came to give.
Becoming beloved-conscious.
Learning to live from the reality that you are loved, accepted, and included in the life of God.
Day by day, you find yourself being conformed into the image of Christ—not through pressure, but through relationship.
Not through fear, but through love.
Freedom is awakening to the reality that you have been loved all along and allowing that love to tell you who you are.
Reflection
What story about myself have I been believing that does not sound like the voice of the Father?
Where have I been more conscious of my failures than of being His beloved son or daughter?
What might change if I allowed His love to become the loudest voice shaping my identity?
Prayer
Abba Father, help me see You more clearly and trust what You say is true. Renew my mind with Your love and teach me to live from the freedom that is already mine in Christ. Amen.
