Who Told You?
Whose Voice Are You Listening To?
A Question That Finds You
In the garden, God asked a question that still reaches us today:
“Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11)
It wasn’t just about what Adam had done.
It was about what he had come to believe… and where that belief came from.
And that same question still finds us.
Whose voice are you listening to?
What Changed—and What Didn’t
Before that moment, nothing about Adam’s identity had changed.
He was still known.
Still created.
Still held and loved.
But something else had entered in.
A different voice.
And that voice didn’t create something new.
It distorted what was already true.
The Voices That Stay With Us
We know what that feels like.
There are voices that stay with us longer than they should.
Words spoken in passing.
Moments that left a mark.
Things repeated until they felt real.
“You’re not enough.”
“You’ve gone too far.”
“This is just who you are.”
And over time, those voices begin to shape how we see ourselves.
What God Has Already Said
But God has never been silent.
Scripture tells us, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
And Jesus says something even more personal:
“I have made Your name known… so that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them” (John 17:26).
The same love.
The love the Father has for the Son.
That is what He has spoken over you.
What Competes For Your Belief
So the question is not whether something has been spoken over your life.
It has.
The question is which voice you have allowed to carry weight.
Because the lie doesn’t define you.
It only tries to replace what God has already said.
Seeing Clearly Again
You are not defined by what was spoken to you in pain, in fear, or in confusion.
You are defined by what God has spoken in truth.
And what He has spoken is not uncertain.
You are loved.
You are known.
You are held.
As the Son is loved… so are you.
Returning To What Is True
You don’t have to chase down every lie.
You don’t have to untangle every voice.
You can return.
Return to what is steady.
Return to what has already been spoken.
Return to the voice that has never changed.
When you hear the question again—Who told you?—listen closely… and ask yourself,
Whose voice are you listening to?
Reflection
Whose voice has been shaping how I see myself?
Where did that voice come from?
What has God already said that speaks louder than it?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You that Your voice is steady and true. Help me recognize what is not from You and return to what You have already spoken. Let me live from Your love and not from what has been said to me. Amen.
