Have you ever owned a car?
You don’t have to think too hard about what it needs.
Oil changes.
Tires rotated.
Filters replaced.
It’s obvious.
If you want it to function as designed, you take care of it.
You don’t call that selfish.
You call it necessary.
Why We Hesitate With Ourselves
But when it comes to our own lives, something tightens.
We hesitate.
It can feel selfish… like we’re taking something for ourselves instead of giving it away.
And yet, neglecting what carries you doesn’t make you more available.
It makes you less.
You Were Given A Life To Steward
You are not just a body.
You are a whole person—physical, emotional, spiritual, relational.
And all of it matters.
Because your life is not something you’re producing.
It’s something you’ve been entrusted with.
Caring For What Carries You
Some of it is simple.
Rest when you’re tired.
Move your body.
Hydrate.
Slow down when you need to.
That’s not optional.
That’s stewardship.
The Place Everything Flows From
But the deepest care is not physical.
It is relational.
It is abiding.
Remaining in Him.
Like a branch in the vine.
A branch doesn’t visit the vine. It lives from it.
Everything it needs flows from that connection.
That is the source.
Why This Matters More Than You Think
When you neglect yourself, it doesn’t stay contained.
It shows up in how you respond, how you carry pressure, how you engage with others.
Because you were not made to live independently.
You were formed in relationship—and your life flows from that same reality.
What This Kind Of Life Produces
When you care for your life this way, something becomes clear.
You are more present.
More grounded.
More able to love without depletion.
Because you are no longer running on what you have.
You are living from Who He is.
The Invitation In Front Of You
Caring for your life is not about protecting your comfort.
It is about honoring the One who gave it.
And when you live that way, you don’t become less available to others.
You become a clearer expression of His love to you and to them.
Reflection
Where have I been neglecting what carries me?
What would it look like to abide instead of strive?
Where do I need to realign so I can live from His life?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You for the life You have placed within me. Teach me to care for it in a way that honors You and allows Your love to flow freely to me and through me. Help me remain in You, where everything I need is found. Amen.
