The Stories We Tell Ourselves
Have you ever noticed how quickly our minds can write a story?
A phone call isn't returned. A doctor's appointment gets scheduled. Someone's tone seems different than it was yesterday. Before long we've imagined tomorrow, next week, and sometimes the rest of our lives.
Our hearts begin carrying emotions tied to events that haven't even happened.
Looking back over my life, I've realized how many of those stories never came true.
When Fear Sounds Reasonable
The difficult part is that fear rarely announces itself.
It usually sounds responsible.
It tells us we're simply being careful, preparing for the worst, or protecting ourselves from disappointment.
Before long, we aren't responding to what is actually happening. We're responding to the story fear has been quietly writing in our minds.
This becomes the moment I need to lift my eyes again.
The Father's Story
Jesus never ignored the realities around Him. He saw suffering, injustice, and rejection, yet none of those things became the lens through which He saw His Father or the people around Him.
Love always remained the truest thing He could see.
That's the invitation for us as well.
Not to pretend difficult things aren't real, but to let the Father's heart become more real than the fear trying to interpret them.
The Next Step
Fear has never been very good at telling the truth about the future.
The Father has never stopped being faithful.
When I find myself caught in the stories fear is writing, I've learned to pause and ask a different question:
Father, what is true right now?
That question has a way of bringing me back to His presence, where fear slowly loses its grip and love quietly finds its voice again.
The future may still be unknown, and that is okay.
The Father's heart never is.
And that's enough to take the next step.

What story has fear been writing in my mind?
Where has the Father's love already been telling a different story?
What would it look like to trust His heart today?
Prayer
Abba Father, thank You that Your love is always truer than my fears. Help me hear Your voice above every other voice and teach me to walk in the peace of being deeply loved.
